Backpacks Made of Recycled Materials
Beckmann has a short-term ambition to only use textile produced by recycled plastic bottles or Ocean Plastic. As of today, the main material on most of our backpacks are produced from recycled plastic bottles (see full list below).
In addition, we have accessories that are made from recycled plastic bottles. If you want to know how many we’re using for each product, you can find the amount of rPET bottles (500ml) used in each product description.
Are you wondering how your recycling can be transformed into fabrics used in a backpack? Here is a simple explanation of the process:
Is the quality of backpacks made from rPET good?
The short answer is yes - they are.
Polyester is a synthetic polymer made from a type of plastic called polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is a versatile material used in various applications, including clothing, textiles, packaging, and industrial products. Polyester fabrics are known for their durability, wrinkle resistance, and resistance to stretching and shrinking.
Recycled polyester matches the quality of virgin polyester while using 59% less energy in production and reducing emissions by 32% compared to virgin polyester, according to a study by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), Switzerland. Besides the detergents used to clean the plastic bottles, no chemicals are employed in the production of rPET.
Choosing products made from rPET ensures you receive the same quality while making an environmentally friendly choice.
